The South Haven Community Foundation was established to enrich the community, particularly in the areas of education, economic development, and arts & culture.
This mission is accomplished by growing endowments that will be large enough to sustain the many worthy non-profit initiatives in the South Haven area.
The seeds of the South Haven Community Foundation were planted in 1996 when funds were established at the Kalamazoo Foundation for the charitable benefit of residents in the South Haven area. South Haven community leaders accepted responsibility of recommending how the proceeds of the endowed funds held at Kalamazoo would be distributed: and, locally they began building a publicly supported, non-sectarian, philanthropic institution, with the long term goal of ensuring permanent funds to address current and future community challenges.
The Foundation’s official designation as an independent, non-profit organization was in 2005 with the filing of Articles of Incorporation and By-laws. It was also during this period when funding efforts produced additional endowments that are managed locally.
Be assured, when you give your gift, people like you are making the community we love a better place.
