Thanks to our Generous Contributors
Dear Friends,
Thanks to the support of our generous contributors, the South Haven Area Community Foundation (“SHCF”) continued to substantially impact our community in 2021. A record amount of contributions were received and over $42,000 of grants were distributed, also a record. The collaboration with United Way and Berrien Community Foundation (Southwest Michigan Cares) continued to support pandemic relief efforts, enabling local non-profits to continue providing crucial services to those in need. We worked diligently with our grant recipients to develop grant requests even when Covid made it difficult to operate.
- A Matching Grant Fund Drive was established for the Michigan Maritime Museum, resulting in SHCF generating over $94,000 for a new museum building.
- Participation in the MDOT Adopt-a-Highway program kept our stretch of I-196 clean and welcoming.
- This year, South Haven students benefited from not only our Memorial Scholarship Fund, but also the Barden Scholarship and the Grace Calvin Scholarship Fund.
Total assets under our management now exceed $4,000,000!
In 2022, our focus will continue on community needs and collaboration in the South Haven area to maximize impact for crucial programs. Our annual report shows the many 501(c)(3) organizations we support in the community. By making a contribution to SHCF, your support allows flexibility as needs arise. A donation of any amount is greatly appreciated and allows SHCF to do more. If there is a particular effort you support, please consider a donation to one or more of our Immediate Need, Endowment or Donor Advised Funds listed on the donation envelope, (click the link below to download a printable PDF).
Donation EnvelopeWould you like to have more of an impact?!
Talk with us about establishing an endowment, creating your own Donor Advised Fund, or consider a bequest. If you have contributed in the past, thank you for your support. We hope you will continue to renew that support and consider an increase if possible. SHCF is growing and striving to do more for the community and every contribution helps. Please contact us for further details of ways to grow your philanthropic goals and help your local community.
Your contributions to SHCF are eligible charitable tax deductions. Federal law in 2021 allows a $300 deduction for cash contributions from taxable income even if you don’t itemize. Another tax favored giving alternative for those 70-1/2 or older with IRA Required Minimum Distributions (RMD) would be to make a contribution direct from an IRA (a Qualified Charitable Distribution, or QCD). Please contact your tax advisor or IRA administrator for further QCD details, or give us a call.
Thank you for helping your Foundation honor the heritage, nurture the present and endow the future of the South Haven area.
Sincerely,
The South Haven Area Community Foundation Board of Directors
